On the behalf of Our Africa Blog, I would like to introduce to all my friends and blog followers Project Dental Africa.

Project Dental Africa was started by a group of highly motivated & self-giving college students. It has now grown to a non-profit cooperation. Their mission is to advocate the importance of dental hygiene to uninformed African children. They also plan to establish a source of dental products that are supplied to African schools and orphanages in order to increase the standard of living and life expectancy of children. Project Dental Africa’s main focus is to educate the children of Africa on how to maintain proper oral hygiene, and to provide them with the tools necessary to do so. In order to educate and distribute these items PDA will travel to Africa (Ghana) this summer and provide toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss while teaching the severe importance of each tool.

You can help and be part of the mission in various different ways.

Depression

I understand the fact that depression is a serious medical issue, and it can be much different from the mere, “I’m feeling a little down today.” I think, however, that many people have a tendency to “psychologize” their behaviors as if they are professionals. And there’s also the fact that in today’s world it is sometimes “cool” to have some form of mental “illness.”

I know quite a few people who battle with depression, whether at a mild/moderate or severe level. I know many people take for granted the fact that they can get up in the morning in a good mood, and barely anything can change that throughout the day. A lot of people also don’t understand the level of stress others face every day that they may keep to themselves, and how easy it is for a “slump” to turn into a very dark chapter in a person’s life.

That’s pretty much it. Don’t want to end this with some cheesy call to action about how we all should try and be someone’s shoulder to cry on, but I always kind of liked cheese.
